Q: How much pocket money did you get when you were younger?
Not a lot. Maybe five pounds a month. I started a paper boy job as soon as I was old enough.

Q: Was it the same for your siblings/friends?
I suppose it varied - more than some, less than others.

Q: Were you better at spending or saving?
I couldn’t possibly save on a fiver a month, so it had to be spending. I’m afraid this still applies!

Q:
Why?
Saving is very important, but spending is the fun part. You’ve got to enjoy yourself too.

Q: What did you save your money in?
I had a bank account.

Q: What did you spend your pocket money on?
Records. Sweets. Books. Cinema.

Q: Did you ever ask your parents for a raise?
No, I don’t think so. I can’t really remember.

Q: What was the most expensive item you ever bought with your pocket money?
I can’t remember. It must have been either music or clothes.

Q: When did you open your first bank account and why?
I was about ten, I think. I was given £10 by a relative, and my folks told me to open an account because of the interest you can earn.

Q: Do you have any money or savings tips for OINK! readers?
The more stuff you buy for yourself, the less thrilling spending becomes. When I bought my first guitar I was so excited and happy. Now I have about eight of them, and none of those purchases were as exciting as the first!
