888 have lots of saving tips for OINK! readers. Here’s what they all say!
Q:
How much pocket money did you get when you were younger?
Josh: Around £10 a week.
Jamie: £5 a week, a piece of coal and a satsuma!!
Stewart: About £2 or £3 a week - if I was lucky!!
Justin: £3 a week - only if I was good!
Q:
Was it the same for your siblings/friends?
Josh: Same as my bro and friends. If you had £10, you were rich!
Jamie: About the same, but more than my brother and sisters, ‘coz I’m the oldest.
Stewart: About the same, I think!
Justin: I got less than my sister, but she’s 7 years older.
Q:
Were you better at spending or saving?
Josh: Mixture of both.
Jamie: Spending is so much easier, but I was pretty good at saving.
Stewart: Spending - always! - Although, if I was saving for something specific, I always managed it!
Justin: Saving, but I’d pretend I’d spent it so my sis would lend me some.
Q:
What did you save your money in?
Josh: A massive glass jar!
Jamie: Piggybank. If I ever got a £5 note, though, it would always get stuck!
Stewart: A piggybank - a baby pig in a nappy from NATWEST!
Justin: Piggybank. Got them from my bank as a reward for saving a certain amount.
Q:
What did you spend your pocket money on?
Josh: I liked buying sweets and mags, but if there was something special I wanted, I’d save for months and months to buy it.
Jamie: CDs and football stickers.
Stewart: CDs.
Justin: Presents for myself!
Q: Did you ever ask your parents for a raise?
Josh: Obviously!
Jamie: Yes.
Stewart: Yes.
Justin: Yes.
|
Q: How much did you ask for?
Josh: Not much. I usually moaned about wanting a BMX part for my bike.
Jamie: £7.
Stewart: Always too much, obviously!!!
Justin: £3.
Q: Did you get it?
Josh: Only if I kicked up enough fuss!
Jamie: No - my parents said that I had to wait ‘til I was older.
Stewart: Pretty much always told no!
Justin: Obviously I got nothing!
Q:
What was the most expensive item you ever bought with your pocket money?
Josh: A BMX Bike.
Jamie: An Arsenal ticket!!!
Stewart: I saved up for my first stereo. I paid half and my mum paid for the rest! Result!!
Justin: A pair of roller boots: Bauer 33s with sim wheels! Don’t ask - it was part of an era! Q:
When did you open your first bank account and why?
Josh: When I was 14, to save my summer job birthday & Christmas money.
Jamie: On my 6th birthday with £1. I got a free piggybank.
Stewart: When I was about 10. My mum worked for a bank and she thought it would be a good idea to start nice and early to build for the future.
Justin: When I was 6. I was given £1 pocket money, and Lloyds were giving away a free piggy bank with each new account. Q:
Do you have any money or savings tips for OINK! Josh: Quite simple! Always save half of whatever money you are given for a rainy day (or a Ferrari!!!).
Jamie: Save half and spend half!
Stewart: I wish I had saved more of the money I earned ‘cause its always good to have some in reserve in case you fall on hard times.
Justin: Whatever pocket money you get, try and only spend half of it and save the other half.
