| Q:
How much pocket money did you get when you were younger?
EL:
£2 a week. It went up at birthdays – I got an extra 50p
Q:
Did you get more or less than your siblings / friends?
EL:
My sister was older than me so she got more. I also used to get a bit
less than my friends. I used to do chores around the house to get extra
money
Q:
Were you better at spending or saving?
EL:
Definitely spending!!
Q:
Why?
EL:
There were just so many things to buy! I was rubbish at saving. Although
I did give £1 a week to my nan who would then double it.
Q:
What did you save your money in?
EL:
An ‘elephant’ piggy bank and a building society account.
Q:
What did you spend your pocket money on? (favourite items)
EL:
Magazines
Q:
Did you ever ask your parents for a raise?
EL:
Yes all the time - every day!
Q:
How much did you ask for?
|
EL:
A lot!
Q:
Did you get it?
EL:
No. They wanted me to learn the value of money, which I think, in hindsight,
is a really good thing – not so good at the time! Even when I started
my first job at 16 when I was earning £40 a week, I had to give
my mum £10 housekeeping money.
Q:
What was the most expensive item you ever bought with your pocket money?
EL:
Christmas presents for my parents and family
Q:
When did you open your first bank account and why?
EL:
I opened a building society account when I was eight. It was my car savings
account – although I don’t think it went on a car in the end!
Q:
Do you have any money or savings tips for OINK! readers?
EL:
It is good to put a regular amount away every week and stick to it. If
you keep to a realistic minimum amount it is easier to keep to.
