Q: How much pocket money did you get when you were younger (7-12yrs)?

AD: Not very much to start with – around £2 a week when I was 7, but by the time I was 12 it was a fiver a week! £20 a month!

Q: Did you get more or less than your siblings / friends?

AD: Well, my brother and sister are a lot older than me so they were working when I was young, but when it came to my school friends we all got the same pocket money – it had to be fair!

Q: Were you better at spending or saving?

AD: Definitely spending! But I had a savings account from when I was quite young which encouraged me to save.

Q: What did you save your money in?

AD: I started out with a piggybank, but then got a savings account and my mum and dad helped me put money aside.

Q: What did you spend your pocket money on?

AD: Sweets! I was crazy about them and bought too many! But I soon learnt if you save up you can buy cool things.

Q: Did you ever ask your parents for a raise?

AD: Yes

Q: How much did you ask for?

AD: Well you’ve got to play them – start asking for a little, then work up!

Q: Did you get it?

AD: Oh yes – until they cottoned on!

Q: What was the most expensive item you ever bought with your pocket money?

AD: A really cool pair of trainers – it took ages to save up, but it was worth it!

Q: When did you open your first bank account and why?

AD: My mum opened one for me when I was really small, but I guess the first one I opened was when I was 8 and I opened it with just £1! It was cool to have my own bank book!

Q: Do you have any money or savings tips for OINK! readers?

AD: Spend a bit, save a bit… focus on things you want and that will help you save!!
